CAIRO, Oct. 6 (SEE)- Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, will participate in the 15th Session of the Forum on Science and Technology (STS) in Kyoto, Japan at the invitation of Mr. Koji Omi, Founder and President of the Forum. The event will also witness the participation of 80 countries worldwide from 7-9 October.
The Forum aims to enhance cooperation between the participating countries in the fields of science, technology and innovation, discuss the mechanisms of transmitting technology in-between the countries and the role of science, technology and innovation in achieving the goals of sustainable development.
Further purposes encompasses benefiting from joint experiences especially in the priority areas of the countries participating in this Forum in science and technology, launching new initiatives and creative ideas as well as offering a great opportunity for open discussions among all participants.
Various topics are to be addressed including energy, life sciences, engineering and innovation, environment, science and technology cooperation, science, technology and society, information and communications technology and social infrastructure.
The minister is expected to review Egypt’s vision in the field of higher education and scientific research during speech in the main opening session in front of world leaders in the educational sector.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Abdel-Ghaffar will sit in the roundtable of Worldwide Science and Technology comprising of participating ministers on the 7th of October.
The Education Minister will meet his Japanese counterpart to discuss ways to maximize the benefits of Japanese experiences of education in the fields of higher education and health. He will also meet a number of African Ministers participating in the Forum to complement Egypt’s role at the African level in the field of higher education and scientific research.
The minister’s trip to Japan also includes visits to some Japanese universities and meeting with their presidents to discuss the mechanism of establishing branches of these Japanese universities in Egypt.
The minister is scheduled to deliver a lecture on “Peace in Relation to Education” at Hiroshima University in the presence of the University leaders and the Mayor of Hiroshima.
