Mazen al-Arabi snatches Egypt’s first medal at Youth Olympics

CAIRO,Oct.9(SEE )- Mazen al-Arabi won on Monday Egypt’s first medal at the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, taking place in Argentina from 6 to 18 October.
The Egyptian champion won the bronze medal at the saber weapon’s competition after he defeated USA’s Robert Vidovszky by a score of 15-10 in the match played to determine the third and fourth places.
Gold and silver medals went for Hungary’s Krisztian Rabb and South Korea’s Jun Hyun, respectively. At the semifinals, al-Arabi lost to Rabb by 15-6.
This is not the first occasion where Egyptian fencers stand out at the Olympic Games. Previously Alaaeldin Abouelkassem won silver at the foil weapon’s competition of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
Egypt is participating with a delegation presided over by Abdel Aziz Goneim, where 68 players are competing at 23 sports including: boxing, fencing, karate, shooting, modern pentathlon, equestrianism,artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, sailing, weightlifting, rowing, swimming, triathlon, archery, table tennis, basketball 3×3, beach volleyball, athletics, futsal, taekwondo, badminton, wrestling, judo, and cycling.
The current Summer Youth Olympics is the third edition. Both previous editions were held in 2010 and 2014, in Singapore and Nanjing (China), respectively.
